University of Iowa, a public research facility situated in Iowa City, Iowa, is Iowa’s oldest public university.

University of Iowa offers more than 100 areas of study. The university’s 11 colleges provide undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the largest college, enrolls most of the university’s students.

Iowa has a little more than 20,000 undergraduates and over 9,000 postgraduates. International students from 100 countries comprise 10% of the student population. Also, Iowa has a 15-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio

The University of Iowa offers for-credit, study abroad  internships. The school also provides programs for honors work and research opportunities with faculty scholars.

The university is home to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, one of the nation’s largest university-owned teaching hospitals. The university is also home to the celebrated Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

The University of Iowa was the first American institution of higher learning to accept creative work for academic credit. Also, the school reports that it educates many of the state’s professionals.
