The staff at TheBestSchools.org congratulates three new recipients of The Best Schools Online Learning Scholarships: Irina Budnova, Lina Rubiano, and Christopher Sheppard (Spring of 2016). We selected these winners from approximately 200 applications we received from across the country.
Our panel of judges selected Irina, Lina, and Christopher mainly on their compelling essay on the subject: “How My Online Degree Can Help Me Achieve My Career Goals.” The scholarship winners also exceed the scholarship requirement of having a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
We realize online learning students have a need for scholarship money—many of them are working adults seeking to cover their monthly expenses. TheBestSchools.org, on a yearly basis, provides $6,000 worth of scholarships ($1,000 per student) to six impressive students enrolled in an online learning degree program.
Winners of The Best Schools Online Learning Scholarships
Irina BudnovaWarner Pacific College
Irina is working toward a Bachelor of Health Care Administration.
Irina’s response to winning the scholarship: “I still can’t believe that I won The Best Schools Online Learning Scholarship! I am so honored that I was chosen and I will continue working hard to achieve my goal of attaining a degree in Healthcare Administration. In the future I want to help develop our healthcare system in new and positive ways and this scholarship will help me get there! Thank you!”
Why Irina chose online education:
Seven months ago I enrolled at Warner Pacific and began my educational journey. The reason for choosing this particular university was based on the fact that they have a one hundred percent online adult degree program. Being a paramedic I have a schedule where I work four consecutive days and then have four consecutive days off, which creates a constantly rotating timetable. It would be nearly impossible for me to regularly attend on-campus classes, making my quest for a higher education unachievable.
Giving up full time work is not an option because I have a family to support and a child on the way. With online classes I am able to learn on my own time while still being able to fulfill all of my responsibilities.
Lina RubianoUniversity of Florida
Lina is working toward a Bachelor of Science in Health Education.
Lina’s response to winning the scholarship: “Determination is one of my biggest motivators and as I accept this scholarship I encourage everyone to reach for their goals and to be thankful. I am grateful for this amazing opportunity of receiving this scholarship, as it will help me get closer to my passion in physical therapy. Thank you to The Best Schools Online Learning Scholarships for this gift!”
Why Lina chose online education:
I chose to take an online degree program rather than a traditional due to the flexibility it offers me. I work full time and need to be able to have access to the material at different hours. My online program also saves me the time of driving to class which is essential with my busy work schedule.
My online degree is helping me achieve my career goals by allowing me to be employed while finishing up the pre-requisites required for graduate school. I am currently a physical therapist assistant and I love physical therapy.
My online degree in health education will be a stepping-stone to achieve a doctorate in physical therapy.
Christopher SheppardFielding Graduate University
Christopher is working toward a PhD in Clinical Psychology.
Christopher’s response to winning the scholarship: “I am so grateful for TheBestSchools.org and their willingness to support graduate students! This scholarship helps tremendously as I pursue my PhD in clinical psychology! TheBestSchools.org has made a wonderful impact on my progress towards my degree!”
Why Christopher chose online education:
Because I currently serve the United States as a civil servant and still wanted to serve while pursuing my PhD.
Despite my readiness to embark on the arduous journey that was earning a PhD, I was not ready to leave the mission addressing the needs of our veterans. This program has allowed me to continue working full time treating high-risk veterans needing immediate and intensive services.
Fielding’s unique educational model is perfect for the working adult. While face-to-face sessions are required as part of our accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA), the majority of the work occurs in online forums and writing comprehensive papers.
My ultimate goal is to work as a trauma psychologist helping those who have endured the unimaginable heal. The PhD degree I am earning affords me the advanced level of training required to treat this sensitive population.
